KIRK’S LOG

Stardate: December 2, 2007

Focus Scripture    Isaiah 2:1-5  and  Romans 13:11-14

Isaiah 2:1-5    The word that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. In days to come

the mountain of God’s house shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised

above the hills; all the nations shall stream to it. Many peoples shall come and say, "Come, let us go up

to the mountain of God, to the house of the God of Jacob; that God may teach us God’s ways and that

we may walk in God’s paths." For out of Zion shall go forth instruction, and the word of God from Jerusalem. God shall judge between the nations, and shall arbitrate for many peoples; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation,

neither shall they learn war any more. O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of God!

Romans 13:11-14    Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us live honorably as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

Listening Post Today, and on the first Sunday of each month, the Listening Post will be in operation after the 10:30 service, in the Preschool Office.  In July 2005, we discussed the “Instrument of Peace” through mailings and during a church service.  This will provide a place where concerns & suggestions of members of our congregation can be discussed and questions posed & answered.

Wishing and Giving – We have attempted to make life and giving as easy as possible for you this year. The things you will find on the wishing tree at the back of the Sanctuary on December 9 are all common items that you might either have at home already or are easily accessible. These are all simple things that will benefit someone in the community. When you have selected something off the tree, please:

·        Take the envelope with you.

·        When you have secured the item requested, tie the envelope to item and set it under one of the trees in the FRONT of the sanctuary.

·        If it is something like socks or mittens, please hang it on one of the trees in FRONT.

If the item you select is a financial contribution to an agency or project, please make the check out to COGS and place it back in the envelope. Then, hang the envelope on one of the trees in front. Please do not put the filled envelope on the wishing tree in the BACK of the Sanctuary. Thank you so much for expanding the giving arms of Church of the Good Shepherd.
