Focus Scripture    John 20:1-18

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw

that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him." Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb.

The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.

He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in.

Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself.

Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. Then the disciples returned to their homes.

A note from Diane FlemingAfter a long and arduous struggle with failing health my Mother died this afternoon in the hospital. Robert was a saint and flew to Memphis over the weekend to help me with her care as we moved her from the nursing home to the hospital. Mom's doctor was the knight in shining honor who did everything possible to improve the quality of her life and was the true healer in this experience. We were supposed to fly back to NM this morning, but I decided to stay because she seemed too sick to leave. Robert flew back in hopes of having eye surgery on Wednesday.  This evening she died while I was feeding her. It was so quick and over in just a second. It was a real blessing for we were scheduled to start hospice care for her in the next day or so, while she was still thinking about going back to the nursing facility for more physical therapy. She never gave up on life,

facing a challenge, or trying to succeed no matter how badly the odds were stacked against her. Her mind was good until her last breath, although her heart just played out from caring so much about others. We shall all miss her sterling presence, but she left a wonderful legacy of love, devotion to family, courage in the face of adversary, and a life lived with dignity and caring for others. We shall all miss her, but will always be surrounded in her love and lead by her fine example of treating others with respect and kindness. I was so lucky to have her for my mom. We plan to have her funeral this Thursday in Memphis.    Diane Fleming
