Focus Scripture    Matthew 9:9-13

As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth;

and he said to him, “Follow me.”  And he got up and followed him.

And as he sat at dinner in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and were sitting

with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples,

“Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”  But when he heard this, he said,

“Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.  Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’  For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.”

Bread for the World’s 2008 Offering of Letters
The Peace and Justice Committee is participating in Bread for the World's annual "offering of letters". We are asking Congress for more and better poverty-focused development assistance — that will give people in poor countries the skills and opportunities to break the cycle of poverty permanently. These include investments in education, agriculture, nutrition, health and clean water. Last year, members of COGS and friends wrote close to 100 letters.  Information is on the table and easel in the hallway. Write your letters, bring them back to church, and drop them in the basket. Next Sunday, June 15,
we will dedicate the letters and fax them to your senators and congresspeople.

STILL, each year, more than 500,000 women die from treatable or preventable complications of pregnancy and childbirth.
In sub-Saharan

How to talk about what is hard to talk about,

when we’d all rather avoid talking about it.

Summer ReadingThis is a great time to look over the "Reading Ark" at church. For a very small donation you can pick a book or several books to entertain yourself over the coming months. Also, if you have books (popular fiction and non-fiction), feel free to add them to the shelves. Also, note the bulletin board with short reviews that will help you decide which books to grab. All of the donations for "good reads" go to the Heifer Project.
