Focus on the Gospel    Matthew 16:13-20

Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesare'a Philip'pi, he asked his disciples,

"Who do men say that the Son of man is?" And they said, "Some say John the Baptist,

others say Eli'jah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them,

"But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ,

the Son of the living God." And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona!

For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church,

and the powers of death shall not prevail against it.

I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth

shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.

COGS Meets LLS, TODAY, after the second service – Since so many of our COGS members and their families have been touched by blood cancers, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) will do a presentation for us about their patient services and ways we could help the fight against blood cancers.  Also, this is an opportunity for you to sign up to join the Light The Night Team.  The presentation will be TODAY after the second service.  If you're unable to come, but would like to find out more about what LLS offers, please call their office at 872-0141.

Remember Project Share, next Sunday, August 31
Bring your stuff!  Check the sign-up board to see what we need.  Thank you for the generous gift of your time and resources!    COGS Community Service Program

State of the (Sunday) School Address – We still need volunteers to be lead shepherds! We currently only have 2 volunteers, and while I'm very grateful to those two people, that's just not enough to make the program run.  Close your eyes for a moment and imagine COGS without a Sunday School program this year. What would that say about our church's values and priorities?  If you've been thinking about volunteering but just haven't gotten around to signing up yet, please do so NOW (on the bulletin board in the hallway).  We need lead shepherds for September, December, and every month of the spring semester.
