Focus on the Gospel    Matthew 22:15-22

Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how to entangle him in his talk. And they sent their disciples to him,

along with the Hero'di-ans, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are true, and teach the way of God truthfully,

and care for no man; for you do not regard the position of men. Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?" But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, "Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? Show me the money for the tax." And they brought him a coin. And Jesus said to them, "Whose likeness and inscription is this?" They said, "Caesar's." Then he said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's,

and to God the things that are God's." When they heard it, they marveled; and they left him and went away.

Text Box: All-Church Picnic
at Rotary Park
TODAY, Noon to 2:00 PM

Remember all those trees we had in the sanctuary for “A Natural Christmas” last December? Many have wondered or tried to find where these trees were planted. Join us for an All-Church Picnic TODAY from 12 to 2:00 p.m. at Rotary Park.

The City of Albuquerque planted the trees in two different parks. The groves of trees have plaques stating they were donated by COGS.
•	Rotary Park — Ventura and Quintana Drive NE (turn east off Ventura onto Quintana and go about one block; it’s on the left)
•	Rancho de Palomas Park — Wyoming and Krim Dr. NE (just south of Gates of Heaven Cemetery)

We will also kick off the 2009 year-long celebration of COGS’s 50th anniversary. There will be games for the kids, lots of food, and lots of fun. Who could ask for anything more?

Bring your meat to grill, a dish to share, and chairs for your sitting pleasure. Paper products, flatware, cups, beverages and tables for serving will be provided.
Connecting Threads documentary on NBC
In October, UCC Global Ministries will receive great national exposure when NBC affiliate stations are invited to run the Connecting Threads video series, produced by UCC Global Ministries and the Disciples of Christ Church.  Several have already committed to showing it, but the more we can do to advertise the documentary the better.  The key is to get people to contact their local NBC-TV stations to encourage them to air Connecting Threads.  The Connecting Threads website (www.ucc.org/connecting-threads) has a list of all of the NBC stations, e-mail addresses & phone numbers of the program managers.  We appreciate all you can do to get the word out, and don’t forget to ask your local station and be sure to watch it at home!  Connecting Threads shows viewers how ordinary people are sharing their talents and time to work with others for a better world.  The documentary enables viewers to experience diverse people, landscapes, and religious perspectives; while being reminded that the Christian faith is global in its reach and inclusive in its mission.  It takes viewers to Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Southern Asia, East Asia and the Pacific, and the Middle East and Europe.  "Watching 'Connecting Threads' brings the voices and lives of our global neighbors right into our homes and hearts," says Jan Aerie, a spokesperson for Global Ministries.  In 2007, Global Ministries had a total of 147 missionaries serving in 44 countries.
