But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sad'ducees, they came together.

And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, to test him.

"Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"

And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,

and with all your soul, and with all your mind.

This is the great and first commandment.

And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets."

Notification of a Congregational Meeting for the purpose of presenting the tentative budget for 2009 fiscal year – The meeting will be held on Sunday, November 9, at 9:30 a.m.

 

Text Box: Children’s/Youth Choir My name is Linda Gilmour, and as new Choir Director I extend a “hello” and a “thank you” for welcoming me so warmly at COGS. It is good to be here! In the works is a new Choir/Music group for children and youth of all ages. This group will sing/play at Sunday morning worship approximately once a month, and will present a musical in the spring. We will develop life-long skills in musicality and performance, all in the backdrop of serving the church and community in a fun-filled way. Of course the bonus here at COGS are the wonderful Orff instruments available to us. Participants will definitely be able to sing and play! I’d like your input on possible rehearsal times. Rehearsals will last approximately one hour. Current ideas/options are Sundays at 12:00 (after a light lunch), Sunday late afternoon around 5:00, or a weekday (Wednesday?) around 4:30. Large Print Hymnal – There is a "Large Print Hymnal" in a white binder in the back of the Sanctuary.  If you would like to use a large print version, please notify one of the ushers.

Mission Trip – New Orleans Jambalaya and Jazz Fund-Raising Dinner Saturday Evening,
November 8, 6 p.m., Fellowship Hall

 

Come join us in a festive evening of good Cajun food, great company (the COGS family and guests), and entertainment: the Dixieland Band with our own Roger and Nancy will sing and play for us along with a surprise from "Boudreau and Thibodeau" from the bayou. It promises to be a fun-filled family evening, and we hope all of you will come and help us send two teams next spring to help with rebuilding New Orleans. Tickets will go on sale October 1:  $40 a couple and $25 for a single ticket. Children under 12 are free.  Please make checks out to “COGS” with a notation on the check that it is for the “New Orleans fund-raiser”.  If you plan to attend the New Orleans Fund-Raising Dinner on November 8, please complete the top part of the tear-off sheet below.  –  Beth Kissling

On October 26, we will begin a new book, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose, by Eckhart Tolle. –
with Floyd Coppage at 9:15 a.m. in Classroom 1

New Member Classes

 

New member classes will be held on the 1st  and 2nd Sunday mornings of each month, at 11:30 a.m.  New members will then be received into the church on the last Sunday of the month.  If you are interested in learning more about the United Church of Christ & Church of the Good Shepherd, please join us on those Sunday mornings.
